Sendai Shrine Lanterns

The lanterns show who donated to the shrine. If I were to take this over, I would move a step to the right so I could read clearly what is written.

User Error

I was at [outside] Sendai Station and I looked down to see that there are JR logos on the tiles. I've never seen them there, or at any other station in Japan. I'll have to look more closely.

It was cold when I took this, and I must have been a little jumpy since the shot turned out blurry. I'll have to go back and try it again sometime because the cheap post processing doesn't cover up my mistake.

PARCO Sendai

7-11 Fishnet

A few blocks south-west of Sendai Station, I found myself in a neighborhood that looked as if they were waiting to catch something falling from the sky.

Sendai Station Date Helmet

With Date Masamune being the founder of Sendai, his likeness is everywhere. He is most famous for having the crescent moon on his helmet, and that's what you see here in from of Sendai Station.

Hmm ... a school crossing and a bar.

This isn't the best moon shot, but I learned from taking it and that's what's important. I wish that cloud weren't there.

Aoba Castle's Shrine

Not to be confused with Aoba Shrine on the other side of town.

Ohashi From Otemon Gate, Aoba Castle

Looking at Ohashi from Otemon Gate, it is easy to see why this spot was chosen for a castle. After clearing out the trees on both sides of the river, the defenders would have a nice, wide open view of anyone approaching from this side.

I really wanted to see the sky on fire behind this, but it was cloudy.

Green Among Brown

There was snow on the ground, the leaves were all gone leaving skeletons of trees, it was cold and gray, and when I turned a corner at Aoba Castle, I saw this.

Hasekura Tsunenaga at Aoba Castle

When I was going up to the castle, up Aoba Mountain, I was worried about catching the sunset behind the statue of Date Masamune. I saw a statue of a samurai towards the bottom, but I resisted going to take a look because I could see the light slowly fading.

On my way back downtown, I found Hasekura Tsunenaga where the Otemon Gate used to stand guarding Aoba Castle.

The Wait

I had to take this shot twice. Fortunately, the guy didn't move. I wonder where he was coming from.

I wanted the guy with the phone more in the picture, but he moved. That happens.

Downtown Sendai From Dainohara

There is a hill near Tohoku Kouko's Dainohara campus that has an observation tower. There is also a pine tree that is marked with a sign saying that it is a few hundred years old. The black and white version of this is much better than the color version.

Sendai Bike Shop

I'm in the market for a bicycle so I stopped by Hayasaka cycle by the International Center. I'll keep checking Hard Off for something used. Whichever bike I get will be kept outside, so I might as well buy used.

I took this because of the contrast between the deep blue of the sign and the building in the background. Unfortunately, I didn't capture it.

Vegas Vegas is a chain pachinko parlor in Sendai. I never saw them in Tokyo, but I never looked either.

This street is a block over from Kokubuncho. I like how the lights seem to go off forever.

I tried to get a shot of the people at the fruit stand, but this guy got in the way. This shot is probably more like what it is really like there.

This neon sign always sticks out to me.

Sendai Ice Skating

Every year the city builds an ice rink near Kotodai Park. I don't skate so I've never used it, but it looks fun.
